Farmers Rejoice as County Government Provides Cost-Effective Tractor Ploughing Services

The Kilifi County Government is helping local farmers by offering affordable tractor services to get their fields ready for planting. This move is all about making farming easier and ensuring everyone can grow plenty of food. With this support, farmers in Kilifi are set for a successful planting season, bringing hope for a fruitful year ahead.

The county government of Kilifi is stepping up to help local farmers prepare for the upcoming planting season by offering low-cost tractor services. This initiative is aimed at making field preparation more affordable and efficient, thereby encouraging more abundant food production.

Farmers in the area are now able to have their fields plowed at a much lower cost than the market rate. This move, part of a collaboration with the Agriculture Ministry, is all about making better farming practices accessible to everyone, especially those who might not have the means for expensive agricultural services.

Peter Mwagona, the county’s agriculture leader, shared this good news with farmers in Lutsangani Village. He mentioned that nine tractors are already at work in Chonyi Sub County, helping to till the land for eager farmers.

This service is particularly aimed at supporting farmers with limited financial resources. With a nominal fee of Sh1,750 per acre for plowing, the county’s initiative significantly undercuts private sector prices, making it much easier for farmers to get their land ready for the next crop cycle.

“We want to make sure that all farmers in Kilifi have the chance to prepare their land without the heavy burden of high costs. These affordable tractors are our way of lightening that load,”

Peter Mwagona

The program is open to every farmer in the community, allowing for the plowing of up to two acres per farmer. This inclusive approach ensures that the benefits of this initiative are spread evenly, without bias towards any particular group of farmers.

Planning for the Future

Looking ahead, Teddy Yawa, who oversees agricultural activities in the county, has outlined plans to plow around 70 acres in Mtwapa. This area will be dedicated to maize cultivation, a strategic move to ensure a stable food supply during less fertile seasons.

Local farmers, represented by Thoya Chikumbo, expressed their gratitude for the county’s efforts. This program is not just about making farming easier; it’s about empowering farmers to produce more, whether for their own tables or for the market.

“We can’t thank the county government enough for this initiative. It’s a big help in getting our farms ready and boosting our potential to grow more food,” Chikumbo said.

As Kilifi’s farmers gear up for planting, the introduction of affordable tractor services marks a significant leap towards modernizing agricultural practices in the region. This effort is not just about increasing crop yields; it’s about laying the groundwork for sustainable farming and stronger, more self-reliant communities.

With the county government’s backing, the farmers of Kilifi are on a path to enhanced productivity and economic growth, ready to face the challenges of the future with new tools and renewed hope.
