Value chain knowledge is understanding all the steps that farm products go through, from production to the final consumer. It includes farming, processing, transport, marketing, and sales.
A farmer who grows tomatoes, for example, benefits by knowing where to sell, how to package, and which buyers pay better prices. Middlemen, transporters, processors, and retailers all play roles in the chain. Farmers who understand the value chain can negotiate better, reduce exploitation, and add value by processing or branding their products.
