Mechanized farming is the use of machines and modern equipment to carry out farm activities such as ploughing, planting, harvesting, and transporting produce.
In Kenya, mechanized farming is common in large-scale maize farms in Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, and Nakuru. Tractors, combine harvesters, and planters save time and reduce labor costs.
Small-scale farmers also hire tractors for land preparation instead of using oxen. Mechanization increases efficiency but is expensive for many farmers. Access to credit and cooperative ownership of machines are some solutions farmers use to afford them.
