Livestock breeding

Livestock breeding is the practice of selecting and mating animals to produce offspring with desired traits such as high milk yield, fast growth, or disease resistance.

Farmers use different methods, including natural mating and artificial insemination.

For example, many dairy farmers use artificial insemination to improve cow breeds like Friesian and Ayrshire for better milk production. Poultry farmers often cross indigenous chickens with improved breeds like Kuroiler to get hardy birds that grow faster.

Good breeding improves productivity and income, but it requires proper record-keeping and access to quality breeding stock.
